3xLOGIC Adds Local Facial Recognition and AI Bridge to VIGIL

3xLOGIC has released VIGIL 13.5 with local facial recognition and an AI Bridge designed to add edge analytics to existing IP camera systems without requiring organizations to replace their installed cameras.

The AI Bridge is a hardware layer that processes video near the point of capture. It can apply person, vehicle and object detection along with perimeter monitoring, loitering detection, dwell-time analysis, people counting and fall detection.

3xLOGIC says the bridge can work across mixed-camera environments rather than only with its own hardware. Administrators configure the analytics through the VIGIL Server Management Utility, allowing policies to be managed centrally while processing remains at the edge.

The facial recognition component supports locally controlled watchlists, real-time alerts and searches of recorded footage. An organization can add authorized or relevant faces to a watchlist and define a workflow for a possible match, such as notifying a security operator or reviewing associated video.

Local processing gives the customer direct control over watchlist and face data and can reduce the need to send biometric templates or video to a remote cloud service. The release can still connect with VIGIL CLOUD, PACOM VIGIL CORE and SONITROL CORE for wider monitoring and management.

The product is aimed at organizations that want newer video analytics but have a large installed camera base. Reusing those cameras can reduce deployment cost, although recognition performance will still depend on image resolution, lighting, camera angle and the quality of watchlist images.

3xLOGIC offers AI Bridge through a perpetual on-premise license or as part of a VIGIL CLOUD subscription. The company is also continuing to sell cameras with their own edge deep-learning capabilities, giving customers a choice between upgrading individual cameras and adding an analytics layer to existing feeds.

Edge processing is becoming a common design for biometric systems. Durin and Qualcomm recently demonstrated cloud-free facial recognition for home access, using local computation to keep identity decisions within the property.

The VIGIL release applies the same architectural principle to commercial video surveillance. That use carries different governance requirements, particularly when watchlists include employees, visitors or members of the public. Monroe County recently considered disclosure rules for businesses using facial recognition, reflecting growing attention to transparency around private deployments.

VIGIL 13.5 brings the AI Bridge and face-matching functions into a single management environment. Customers can deploy the analytics selectively across existing cameras rather than enabling biometric identification throughout an entire network.
