1Kosmos is celebrating its recent iBeta certification. The company’s flagship BlockID solution now has the approval of iBeta and the FIDO Alliance, and has also met the NIST’s 800-63-3 standard.
The iBeta evaluation specifically concerned the organization’s 21 CFR 1311.116 Standard. BlockID passed the test with flying colors, performing 200 live biometric attempts without producing a single false match for an overall false match rate (FRM) below 0.1 percent. Those matches were performed on iOS and Android devices, for a 95 percent confidence level.
1Kosmos’ BlockID solution is designed for onboarding and ongoing authentication. The platform combines user biometrics with private blockchain technology to create a secure user identity that can be used to gain passwordless access to various online applications.
“Preventing false matches in live biometrics is both critical for identity proofing in sensitive applications and extremely hard to accomplish,” said 1Kosmos CTO Rohan Pinto. “Not only did BlockID meet iBeta’s FMR requirements, we exceeded them. Our compliance with the 21 CFR, FIDO2 and NIST standards provides customers full confidence in the reliability and accuracy of our live identity verification capabilities.”
1Kosmos received its FIDO2 certification in October of 2020, and followed that with NIST certification in May of the following year. The company now credits those accomplishments for its breakout success in 2021. 1Kosmos emerged from stealth mode last February, and has since gone on to double its headcount and triple its number of clients over the course of the year.
Along the way, 1Kosmos released a new Passwordless Identity Package that lets people replace the traditional username and password fields with a QR code for authentication. The company has also launched a SIM binding feature that lets users link one mobile number to their BlockID account to stop fraudsters who might try to register a second device during an attack.
