1Kosmos Becomes a Microsoft Entra Verified ID Partner for Remote Onboarding

Identity company 1Kosmos has extended its partnership with Microsoft to become an official Entra Verified ID services and solution partner, letting organisations issue and check verifiable credentials during remote onboarding.

Entra Verified ID is Microsoft’s service for issuing and verifying digital credentials that a holder can present and a relying party can check cryptographically. Under the integration, 1Kosmos performs identity proofing by verifying a government-issued document and matching it against a live biometric selfie with liveness detection, the check that confirms a real person is present rather than a photo or replay. The resulting high-assurance identity is bound to the user and can be issued as a tamper-evident credential, which 1Kosmos says is backed by a decentralised private ledger that keeps an audit trail. The joint offering is listed on the Microsoft Security Store.

The company says the proofing is certified to ISO/IEC 30107-3, the standard for measuring how well a system resists presentation attacks, and to the NIST identity and authenticator assurance levels IAL2 and AAL2. The joint offering acts as an external authentication method for Entra ID and extends passwordless, phishing-resistant sign-in to environments Microsoft’s native support does not reach, including Mac, Linux, virtual private networks, and shared workstations. It also allows biometric-backed self-service password reset and account recovery, one of the weaker links attackers exploit.

Microsoft has been assembling a roster of identity verification vendors around the service, which authID joined earlier as an Entra Verified ID partner. 1Kosmos, which is based in Iselin, New Jersey and has raised more than 72 million dollars in venture funding, earned FedRAMP High authorization for federal use, and says it conducts millions of authentications a day for banks, telecoms, and healthcare organisations.

“Becoming a Microsoft Entra Verified ID partner reinforces our commitment to delivering the most secure and convenient identity solutions for employee onboarding,” said Mike Engle, chief strategy officer at 1Kosmos. Ankur Patel, a partner group product manager at Microsoft, said strong partner ecosystems give customers flexibility, adding that 1Kosmos joins an expanding set of identity verification partners supporting secure, high-assurance account recovery.
