1Kosmos has announced the release of its Passworldless Identity Package (PIP), which can provide enterprises with a low-risk and scalable passwordless authentication solution.
The 1Kosmos PIP features an organic adoption method in which a passwordless QR code is placed in the same login page as where the conventional username/password fields are in order to give users the choice between the two authentication methods.
The PIP also has a biometrics-based reset feature, enabling the end user to use either liveness detection biometrics, or the modality of biometric authentication present on their device, a push notification, or an OTP in order to reset forgotten passwords.
“Enterprises recognize that password-based attacks are their biggest vulnerability, and they are under pressure to implement an effective passwordless solution across multiple departments. PIP offers the flexibility organizations need to roll out passwordless fast, but in a controlled way to meet varying levels of authentication needs,” said Hemen Vimadalal, founder and CEO of 1Kosmos. “The quick implementation of the PIP has businesses up and running fast – in seven days or less – to get companies started on their journey to passwordless authentication. Users like the frictionless experience and security teams have all the flexibility they need to ease into their implementation at whatever pace is right for them.”
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic that in many places around the world is now entering its fifteenth month, there has been a dramatic rise in online traffic. Various lockdown measures and stay-at-home orders that have been put into place to mitigate the spread of the virus have resulted in more people working, banking, shopping, and going to school online.
This has led to a proportionate rise in cybercrime, and organizations of all sizes have had to adopt new, more secure security practices to counter the increasingly sophisticated tools and practices used by hackers.
One such area that has been a focus over the past year has been the use of biometrics for remote authentication and customer onboarding, and the push to replace the traditional username/PIN/password setup that most of us are used to today.
Experts from around the world have pointed to the dangers of bad ‘password hygiene’, with biometrics often being mentioned as a popular solution to the challenge of improving on password security.
As a cloud-based solution, the PIP — which is powered by the 1Kosmos BlockID distributed digital identity platform that just received NIST certification — can allow an organization to address various passwordless authentication needs across a number of different departments in a matter of days.
