“In a statement, Zighra suggested its FIDO2 adaptation was particularly well-timed given the recent implementation of the European Union’s General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).”
Zighra has adapted the on-device version of its authentication platform to comply with the FIDO Alliance’s latest standard, the Ottawa-based company has announced.
Its solution revolves around behavioral biometrics, tracking how a user holds their phone, swipes, taps, and so on to establish a unique profile for authentication. It’s an increasingly popular approach to user authentication, albeit one that often relies on server-side approaches to behavioral analytics, unlike Zighra’s on-device solution.
In a statement, Zighra suggested its FIDO2 adaptation was particularly well-timed given the recent implementation of the European Union’s General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). “By offering device-side authentication, our alignment with FIDO standards empowers customers to have choice and control over who accesses their personally identifiable information, in conjunction with the GDPR mission,” explained Zighra CEO Deepak Dutt. The executive added that Zighra’s “decentralized model removes the security risks associated with storing data in one central store, a core issue in today’s breach history.”
The development is good news for the FIDO Alliance, too, which now encompasses one more compelling authentication system in its roster of compliant solutions. And as FIDO’s standards become more widely recognized for their compatibility with GDPR and their approach to security more generally, Zighra stands to benefit in terms of increasing interest from businesses and other organizations looking for a continuous, mobile authentication solution.
