Yoti has added ConnectID to its age-assurance platform in Australia, letting users prove they meet an age threshold through their banking app without sending an identity document, name or date of birth to the requesting service.
The integration uses information the bank has already verified. A user choosing ConnectID is redirected to their banking app, where the bank can confirm an age requirement and return a simple threshold response, such as over 16 or over 18. The online platform receives that confirmation rather than the underlying identity details.
Australian Payments Plus, which operates ConnectID, says the process also avoids sharing biometrics with the platform. The service provides an alternative for people who want to complete an age check using their existing bank relationship, rather than uploading documents or using another verification method.
The new option arrives as Australia’s Age-Restricted Material Codes extend age-assurance requirements to services including R18+ online games and app stores offering R18+ applications. Yoti’s platform offers businesses multiple ways to check age, with ConnectID joining those choices.
Rick Iversen, head of ConnectID, said the service is designed to share only the information necessary for the transaction. When a platform needs an over-16 or over-18 result, he said, it receives neither the user’s full birth date nor a copy of their identity document.
Yoti chief executive Robin Tombs said businesses need a range of methods to respond to changing requirements and give customers a choice in how they prove their age. ConnectID is already available as an age-assurance option on other online platforms.
Australia’s gaming sector has begun adding several verification routes. The Epic Games Store introduced age checks for R18+ titles using facial age estimation, payment-card authorization and document verification, with a bank-backed ConnectID option also planned. The restriction concerns adult-classified games rather than all purchases.
Yoti and the earlier connectID service also worked on Australian online alcohol age checks in 2021, addressing verification at the online point of sale and at delivery. The latest integration places bank-verified threshold checks within Yoti’s current age-assurance platform, expanding the methods businesses can offer while keeping the user’s identity details with the bank.
