Xperix has introduced a new optical FAP 60 fingerprint scanner, unveiling it at the recent ID4Africa conference. Known as the RealScan SG10, the device measures 80 millimeters in thickness and weighs 1,350 grams. Despite its relatively compact form for its category, it meets FBI Appendix F certification standards, offering a high-performance solution for portable biometric identification in field environments.

Compact and Field-Ready, with Full FBI Compliance

The SG10 is part of a growing category of miniaturized FAP 60 scanners tailored for mobile deployment. As biometric applications expand into law enforcement, civil registration, and humanitarian operations, manufacturers are prioritizing portability, ruggedization, and compliance with international standards.

Designed for both indoor and outdoor use, the SG10 supports USB and wireless connectivity and features high-resolution imaging that meets the FBI’s image quality criteria. Its hardened exterior and portable profile position it as a practical option for field agents operating in remote or low-infrastructure environments.

The device was launched at ID4Africa, where mobile biometrics featured prominently amid ongoing digital identity initiatives across the continent. The SG10’s standards compliance and deployment flexibility make it a strong candidate for use in national ID programs, border control operations, and public service delivery in sectors such as healthcare and finance.

Enabling Mobility in Biometric Workflows

According to experts at the event, the SG10 exemplifies the shift toward smaller, more adaptable biometric tools that do not compromise on quality. By reducing the operational footprint of fingerprint scanning, Xperix is helping agencies and system integrators conduct biometric enrollment and verification in previously hard-to-reach locations.

The RealScan SG10 builds on the company’s earlier models, such as the RealScan-G10, but introduces improvements in mobility and integration flexibility. Its release underscores the continued trend in the biometrics sector toward compact, high-resolution scanners optimized for field use and demanding environments.
