The integration enables West Virginia residents to access their digital credentials through either the free West Virginia Mobile ID app or Samsung Wallet. Users can verify their identity by tapping their phone near a mobile ID reader or scanning a QR code. This feature is especially valuable at TSA checkpoints in participating U.S. airports, where West Virginia’s digital IDs were recently approved for use.
Rob Gardner, CEO of IDEMIA Civil Identity North America, highlighted the partnership’s importance, stating, “We’re excited to expand our partnership with Samsung and West Virginia to provide West Virginia residents with another convenient and trusted way to use their mobile ID credentials through the Samsung mobile wallet.” Gardner added that the integration makes security a top priority, ensuring personal information can only be accessed and shared with user consent.
The West Virginia implementation adds to IDEMIA’s mobile ID solutions across the United States, which include programs in Arizona, Delaware, Iowa, Mississippi, and New York. IDEMIA’s technology has earned recognition from the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) for its performance in passenger facilitation simulation testing and the Face Recognition Vendor Test (FRVT).
The expansion follows successful field testing completed in September 2024, which included pilot programs with law enforcement officers using the mobile ID scanning capabilities. The technology enhances interactions with businesses and service providers while maintaining robust security and privacy standards.
