Visa Inc. announced on October 23, 2025 a collaboration with identity platform Proof to embed verified digital identities into high-risk and high-value transactions. The partnership will use Proof’s “Certify” technology – described as an “EMV chip for digital identity” – to cryptographically verify consumer identities across payments, banking, contracts and commerce. Visa Senior VP Daniel Sanford said that “trusted digital identity is the next frontier for enabling secure commerce,” and that linking Visa’s network with Proof’s platform will transform how identity is used in transactions.
Under the initiative, consumers’ biometrically-backed Proof IDs can be reused across flows like insurance payouts, tax refunds, real estate transfers and other financial transactions, with Visa’s fraud network fortifying the process. The goal is to reduce first-party fraud and friction by allowing merchants and institutions to skip redundant KYC checks. According to Proof, its platform already handles billions in transaction volume; integrating Visa’s data will bolster Proof’s fraud detection model (OmniTrust) to flag deepfakes and other identity attacks. In short, Visa and Proof aim to create a new “identity-authorized transaction network” that is privacy-aware and fraud-resistant.
The collaboration lands alongside Visa’s broader identity initiatives. Earlier this year Visa and TECH5 signed a seven‑year collaboration to pair biometric identity with payments as part of Digital Public Infrastructure programs.
Visa has explored wallet and crypto‑adjacent rails that hinge on strong identity signals, including developments outlined in the March 27, 2025 digest. The Proof partnership fits that trajectory of linking verified identity to higher‑risk transaction flows.
