The companies plan to create integrated biometric modules that combine sensors and software for existing Verifone payment terminals and third-party devices. These modules will also be built into Verifone’s new Victa terminal line.
Verifone is developing an open biometric payments ecosystem that will work across platforms. This will allow consumer platforms, digital wallets, merchants, acquirers, networks, and issuers to process biometric transactions through current payment systems.
This partnership reflects broader industry movement toward biometric payments, demonstrated by J.P. Morgan’s expanded biometric payment testing with PopID and Mastercard’s goal to replace passwords with biometric authentication by 2030.
The solution offers merchants faster transactions, better security, and improved customer loyalty. Customers will experience quicker checkouts and easier access to loyalty programs. Both companies stress their focus on meeting regulatory requirements and industry standards in implementing these technologies.
While this partnership could transform payment authentication globally, consumer attitudes remain divided. A January 2025 study of Canadian consumers showed 46 percent in favor and 45 percent against biometric payment methods.
