VerifiNow has launched a biometric identity verification solution tailored for telehealth providers, aiming to enhance patient authentication during virtual healthcare sessions. The platform, known as PatientVerifi, combines facial recognition, voice biometrics, and liveness detection to help healthcare organizations reduce identity fraud and comply with security regulations.
PatientVerifi integrates directly with video conferencing platforms such as Zoom and Microsoft Teams, allowing providers to adopt the technology without modifying existing telehealth workflows. According to the company’s announcement, the system is designed to streamline patient onboarding and reduce the risk of unauthorized access during remote consultations. It supports multi-factor biometric authentication and incorporates security protocols that meet HIPAA compliance standards.
Security Pressures in Telehealth
The launch of PatientVerifi comes amid ongoing concerns over digital security in healthcare. A 2020 report from CynergisTek revealed that just 44 percent of healthcare providers met key standards set by the National Institute of Standards and Technology’s Cybersecurity Framework. The findings underscored growing vulnerabilities in remote care environments, particularly as telehealth services have expanded rapidly since the pandemic.
Identity fraud has also become a more pressing threat. In its 2025 State of Identity Fraud Report, AuthenticID recorded a 2.10 percent fraud rate for 2024 — the highest on record. VerifiNow says PatientVerifi can help mitigate this trend by securing patient sessions against impersonation and identity theft. The company emphasizes that its biometric checkpoints are designed to reduce the risk of prescription abuse and insurance fraud, though these claims are based on internal evaluations.
Biometrics and Deepfake Risk Mitigation
Liveness detection plays a key role in PatientVerifi’s architecture, ensuring that biometric data is collected from real individuals in real time. While VerifiNow does not specifically cite deepfake detection in its promotional materials, liveness detection can help mitigate the risk of AI-generated spoofing attempts during authentication sessions. This capability is increasingly critical as attackers deploy synthetic media to bypass remote identity systems.
“With advanced biometric checkpoints, PatientVerifi ensures accurate patient authentication, reduces the risk of prescription misuse and insurance fraud, and supports compliance with healthcare regulations,” said Paul Velusamy, founder of VerifiNow.
By integrating biometric verification into familiar video tools, VerifiNow hopes to make secure identity confirmation a standard part of virtual care. As fraud threats evolve and healthcare providers seek efficient ways to confirm patient identities, tools like PatientVerifi represent a growing segment of the remote care security ecosystem.
