Smart home security company ULTRALOQ has launched its new Bolt Fingerprint smart deadbolt, a device that combines biometric access with support for the Matter smart home interoperability standard. The product aims to provide a seamless keyless entry experience while solving cross-platform compatibility issues in the smart home market.
The lock’s main feature is a fingerprint sensor that allows users to unlock their door in under a second. The Bolt Fingerprint also offers multiple alternative entry methods, including remote app control, time-sensitive guest codes, voice commands, and a traditional physical key backup.
A central feature is its native support for Matter, the universal connectivity standard that allows smart home devices from different manufacturers to work together. The company is marketing the lock as the “World’s First Fingerprint Smart Deadbolt with Matter Over Thread,” ensuring compatibility with Apple Home, Google Home, Amazon Alexa, and Samsung SmartThings. The launch of a Matter-enabled biometric device is a key development for the industry, realizing the potential of the standard for smart home security that was anticipated when it was first announced.
Analysts suggest that by leading with Matter compatibility, ULTRALOQ is targeting consumers frustrated by proprietary “walled garden” ecosystems. The strategy bets that interoperability is becoming a primary purchasing driver, shifting the value proposition from the device itself to its role within a seamless and future-proof smart home.
As Matter makes interoperability a baseline expectation, the industry may see a shift in competition. Manufacturers will likely be forced to differentiate based on factors like biometric sensor quality, software features, battery life, and industrial design. This could lead to a market split between premium brands focused on advanced features and others competing on price for basic, Matter-compliant hardware.
