UIDAI to Launch Full Aadhaar App With Family Verification and Privacy-First Sharing

India’s Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) is preparing to launch the full version of the Aadhaar mobile app on January 28, 2026, adding family identity management and privacy-focused sharing features. The upgrade is positioned as a digital ID wallet that lets Aadhaar holders present only the information required for verification.

Reported features include the ability to manage and share identity details for family members in a single app and a selective disclosure workflow that reveals only the fields needed for a particular verification. The app is aimed at faster check-ins for travel, lodging, and other services where identity verification is required.

The full-version rollout builds on the QR-based Aadhaar sharing app that introduced selective disclosure through QR codes and limited data sharing. It also aligns with broader ecosystem developments such as the Aadhaar face authentication expansion into private-sector apps, which widened how biometric verification can be used in daily services.

The app’s family verification features could be particularly relevant for shared household needs, such as travel bookings or service onboarding for dependents. UIDAI has framed the full app as a privacy-first alternative to handing over photocopies or screenshots, enabling users to share only what an organization needs to validate identity.

UIDAI has also expanded partnerships that integrate Aadhaar into commercial verification workflows. The new app capabilities complement integrations such as Nametag’s Aadhaar integration, which broadened access to Aadhaar-based e-ID checks for businesses operating across multiple markets.

The app rollout is notable for the biometrics and digital identity sector because Aadhaar remains one of the world’s largest identity systems. Expanding mobile, selective disclosure tools could influence how identity checks are performed for millions of daily transactions, while setting expectations for privacy-preserving verification in other national ID programs.
