UC Davis Adopts Examity’s Online Testing Platform

Another academic institution has adopted Examity’s biometric testing services. The University of California, Davis has announced that it will be using the company’s online proctoring platform to prevent cheating in online courses moving forward.

The Examity platform utilizes AI and behavioral biometrics technology to provide ongoing identity verification through keystroke analysis, predictive analytics, and video review. The solution ensures that the student taking an exam is the student that is supposed to be taking the exam, and that they are not subverting its integrity while the exam is in progress.

According to UC Davis, Examity will allow the university to meet the growing demand for online educational options. Roughly 7,000 of the university’s 39,600 students are now enrolled in at least one online course, a number that nearly doubles the 3,700 total from one year ago.

UC Davis is also hoping that secure testing services will make higher learning more accessible and improve the overall experience.

“We’re tapping the potential of online learning to expand opportunity for students throughout the state,” said Meggan Levitt, the Associate Vice Provost of Information and Educational Technology at UC Davis. “Ensuring that testing is secure, and learning is validated, is critical to fulfilling the promise of quality that students have come to expect from a UC Davis program.”

Texas A&M, Indiana University, and the State Fair Community College in Missouri are some of the other academic institutions that have deployed Examity to catch cheaters during online exams. Examity has also provided testing services for corporate partners like Amazon.

That client roster is likely to grow as biometric testing options become more popular. Smart Serve Ontario recently integrated biometrics into its online certification platform, while China has looked to face and fingerprint recognition to verify the identities of people taking the country’s annual “gaokao” university entrance exam.
