Transact and CBORD have announced a major update to the Transact IDX platform, giving students the ability to add campus ID credentials directly to Apple and Google Wallets. The integration reduces dependence on dedicated mobile apps for many services, allowing students to use digital wallets they already rely on for everyday payments and transit.
Expanding Mobile ID Access
The cloud-based system now supports wallet-based access to residence halls, dining facilities, libraries, and other points of entry where compatible hardware is in place. While some legacy systems may still require mobile apps or physical cards, the new capability marks a significant shift toward frictionless access across campus services.
“IDX was built to make life easier for both students and staff,” said Taran Lent, Senior Vice President of Product Strategy at Transact. He added that the release helps free campus teams from routine system management, enabling technology to act as an enabler rather than a burden.
The update also introduces tools for administrators, including more efficient meal plan configuration and improved period management features. Institutions can now copy meal plan settings across different terms and streamline administrative tasks that previously required manual duplication.
Student Adoption and Market Context
Transact pointed to wider digital wallet adoption as a driver of the change. With surveys showing that nearly four out of five members of Generation Z already use mobile wallets, campus credentials are expected to fit naturally into student routines. By removing the need to download separate apps, universities may also reduce IT support requests and onboarding challenges.
IDX is already used by institutions in the United States, Canada, and Australia, supporting millions of cardholders. The company highlights the system’s cloud infrastructure, which it says has delivered 100 percent uptime, as a factor in ensuring reliable access for students and staff.
Future updates will add AI assistance, advanced reporting, guest deposit features, and entitlement controls that help schools manage eligibility for services. These additions align with broader trends in the security industry, where identity technologies are becoming more widely deployed across sectors beyond higher education.
Part of Roper Technologies’ Education Portfolio
Transact Campus and CBORD are both business units of Roper Technologies (Nasdaq: ROP). Transact focuses on campus payment and ID solutions, while CBORD provides technology for educational institutions and healthcare facilities. Their combined offerings give schools integrated options for managing payments, access control, and digital identity systems.
As universities continue to serve as early adopters of mobile ID technology, the integration of campus credentials into established wallet platforms underscores a shift toward more convenient and secure digital identity management for students and administrators alike.
