Thales Launches Enterprise FIDO Key Management Solution with Microsoft Entra ID Integration

Thales has launched OneWelcome FIDO Key Lifecycle Management, a new solution to help large organizations deploy and manage FIDO security passkeys at scale. The platform connects with Microsoft Entra ID through FIDO2 provisioning APIs to simplify passwordless authentication adoption in enterprise environments.

The solution pairs an interoperable management platform with Thales hardware FIDO security keys, allowing IT teams to manage the complete lifecycle of FIDO credentials from enrollment to revocation. Organizations using Microsoft 365 can pre-register Thales FIDO keys for end users, making secure authentication available immediately upon deployment.

This release extends Thales’ passwordless authentication portfolio, which includes the firm’s Passwordless 360° platform launched earlier this year. The new solution addresses key challenges in FIDO key deployment, including complex self-registration processes and lifecycle management issues that have limited widespread adoption.

Danny de Vreeze, Vice President of Identity & Access Management at Thales, highlighted the solution’s role in enabling secure transitions to passwordless authentication, noting that it “eliminates the barriers to smooth adoption and enables IT teams to easily manage FIDO security keys beyond just the enrollment.”

The FIDO Alliance’s Executive Director and CEO, Andrew Shikiar, commented that the solution supports the organization’s mission to reduce password dependence through simpler, stronger authentication methods. “As an active board member of The FIDO Alliance, Thales underscores that mission by supporting a wider deployment of FIDO standards via its device-bound passkey Management Solution – with the added bonus of full key lifecycle management,” he said.

Microsoft’s Principal Product Management Lead, Natee Pretikul, emphasized the collaboration’s focus on enabling rapid deployment of phishing-resistant authentication through pre-registered passkey credentials.

The announcement follows Thales’ recognition as an Identity Trailblazer at the 2024 Microsoft Security Excellence Awards for its Identity and Access Management solutions.
