Tencent Cloud and Brazilian fintech Treeal have announced a partnership to introduce the PalmAI Service to Brazil for payments and access control applications.
The palm recognition system analyzes unique palm characteristics including vein patterns beneath the skin, lines, contours, creases, and skin textures such as pigmentation and calluses. Each scan completes within milliseconds and requires neither a card nor smartphone.
Tencent Cloud claims the system outperforms traditional biometric methods including fingerprint and facial recognition in accuracy and security. The PalmAI Service already supports more than 50 million active users globally with over 2 billion transactions annually.
The Brazil launch follows Tencent’s palm payment pilot in Singapore, announced in partnership with Visa in November 2024. Brazil represents the next step in Tencent’s global rollout, following Tencent’s palm payment expansion in Thailand in May 2025.
The technology is deployed extensively across Tencent’s own facilities in Asia, where biometric readers at every entrance provide instant access for employees and visitors.
The partnership enters Brazil’s growing biometric payment infrastructure, which includes facial recognition and fingerprint authentication on the Pix network. The Brazil market represents Tencent Cloud’s expansion of palm biometrics into the Latin American market.
Palm recognition technology has gained momentum as an alternative to facial and fingerprint biometrics, with proponents citing advantages in hygiene, user privacy, and accuracy. The technology captures more unique data points than fingerprints while being less intrusive than facial recognition.
Treeal will integrate the PalmAI Service into payment terminals and access control systems across Brazil. The partnership positions both companies to capitalize on Brazil’s high adoption of digital payment methods and biometric technologies.
