The City Government of Tayabas has connected its municipal digital-service platform to the Philippines’ National ID Authentication System, becoming the first local government unit in the CALABARZON region to complete the integration. The Philippine Statistics Authority has authorized the Tayabazen Digital Platform to operate as a National ID Authentication Relying Party.

CALABARZON, officially designated Region IV-A, is an administrative region south of Metro Manila whose name combines Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal and Quezon. Tayabas is located in Quezon province, making its deployment a first across the region’s five provinces.

Tayabas and the PSA signed a subscription agreement at New Tayabas City Hall on July 13. The agency subsequently issued a Certification of Compliance and Authorization to Go-Live after reviewing the platform against national privacy, security and technical requirements. The city says the service is now operational for public use.

The National ID Authentication System, or NIDAS, is the identity-checking service for the Philippine Identification System. It lets authorized government bodies and private organizations verify National ID holders through QR code, demographic or biometric authentication. Its use is governed by the Philippine Identification System Act and the country’s Data Privacy Act.

Within the Tayabazen platform, the connection will be used for registration and identity verification when residents access city services. The local government expects the check to reduce duplicate records and inaccurate information while decreasing the number of supporting documents residents must present for transactions.

The deployment extends the National ID from credential issuance into local service delivery. Philippine agencies have already used the system to verify employment-program beneficiaries through a National ID portal, while financial institutions have connected it to loan application identity checks.

Tayabas Mayor Anthony Lim said the project is intended to make municipal transactions faster, safer and easier to access. The city also described the completed technical validation as a model that other local governments in the region could follow, although no additional CALABARZON deployments were named.

The authentication arrangement does not replace the Tayabazen platform. Tayabas remains responsible for the municipal service, while the PSA supplies the authoritative National ID verification function and determines whether an organization has met the requirements to become a relying party. That division lets the city retain its service interface while checking submitted identity information against the national system. The public announcement did not identify which municipal transactions will be enabled first or publish usage targets.
