Taipei Songshan Airport Adopts SITA Biometric Kiosks in Check-In Modernization Drive

Taipei Songshan Airport (TSA) has partnered with SITA to upgrade its passenger check-in infrastructure with new biometric self-service technologies.

The upgrade will introduce SITA’s Smart Path TS6 self-service kiosks, which include integrated face-biometric cameras. TSA says the new system will enhance the speed and efficiency of passenger processing, helping to reduce queues and improve operational flow. SITA notes that the kiosks can also be configured as common-use terminals, allowing multiple airlines to share the same infrastructure, an approach that maximizes space and streamlines terminal operations.

This deployment follows SITA’s late-2024 integration of Intelligent Passenger Solutions (IPS) into its airport portfolio. That move expanded SITA’s capabilities in common-use check-in and bag-drop systems, enabling more scalable and flexible airport processing models. The Taipei project reflects SITA’s broader strategy of embedding biometric and self-service functionality into every stage of the passenger journey.

The airport says the system will support touchless, secure check-ins that meet evolving passenger expectations and regulatory requirements. While TSA’s implementation focuses on check-in kiosks, other airports have adopted similar technologies at different touch-points. For example, Jamaica’s Sangster International Airport recently launched facial-recognition e-gates for immigration processing, reflecting a growing trend toward fully biometric travel corridors.

SITA has emphasized the benefits of embedding advanced self-service systems into airport design and infrastructure planning, pointing to long-term cost savings and increased throughput. The Taipei deployment aligns with those principles and is expected to serve as a model for other mid-sized airports seeking to modernize without large-scale terminal expansions.
