Upcoming Synaptics Q2 Report May Hint at In-Display Tech Prospects

January 18, 2018

“The update will arrive at an exciting time for the company and indeed for the markets in which it operates, particularly the mobile sector.”

Synaptics will report its Q2 fiscal results for 2018 on February 7th, the company has announced.Upcoming Synaptics Q2 Report May Hint at In-Display Tech Prospects

The results will be issued after market close, while Synaptics officials will host a conference call for investors and analysts starting 5:00 p.m. ET. In a statement, Synaptics did not indicate which of its executives will host the conference call, but asserted that “management may discuss forward-looking information.”

The update will arrive at an exciting time for the company and indeed for the markets in which it operates, particularly the mobile sector. Synaptics recently announced that it had developed viable, in-display fingerprint sensor technology – a feat that has thus far eluded heavy hitters like Apple and Samsung – and revealed that it’s going to be used in a forthcoming smartphone from Vivo. Thus the upcoming conference call may offer hints about when that device will hit the market, and perhaps even whether additional OEMs have come onboard to play with Synaptics’ pioneering technology.

Meanwhile, Synaptics’ audio processing technology continues to build interest in the areas of smart speakers and AI assistants, with the company having announced recent deals with Harman Kardon and Microsoft. With such consumer-facing technologies on the rise, this could be an important growth area for the company as well. The conference call may provide some clues as to the trajectory Synaptics expects for these activities, too.
