Stripe has partnered with World to integrate a fiat-to-crypto onramp directly into the World App, enabling users in the United States to purchase Worldcoin (WLD) tokens without third-party exchanges. The integration allows funding of World App Wallets using familiar methods such as credit and debit cards, bank transfers, and PayPal. While the feature is initially limited to U.S. users, it highlights the growing connection between financial services and World’s digital identity ecosystem.
Linking Payments to Biometric Identity
The Stripe integration strengthens World’s biometric identity infrastructure, which is centered on the rollout of its Orb devices. These iris-scanning machines are now deployed across major UK cities, beginning with London in mid-June and expanding to Manchester, Birmingham, Cardiff, Belfast, and Glasgow. The devices generate World IDs – digital credentials that certify users as human while safeguarding privacy through local encryption and deletion of raw biometric data. Participants who complete scans receive WLD tokens as an incentive.
World currently operates about 1,500 Orbs globally and plans to deploy more than 12,000 additional units over the next year. The UK launch was timed to coincide with London Tech Week, reflecting the company’s positioning of World ID as a solution to the rising challenge of distinguishing human users from AI-driven bots and deepfakes. By tying financial access to verified digital identity, the company aims to create a secure ecosystem that bridges payments and proof of humanity.
Onramp for Mainstream Adoption
The feature reduces friction for new users by providing direct access to tokens within the app, complementing World’s identity verification network. With Stripe’s compliance framework handling payments and verification, World App can offer a seamless way for verified individuals to participate in its financial ecosystem.
The World App already supports token transfers, private chat, and hundreds of mini-apps, with Circle integration enabling USDC payments. The addition of Stripe’s onramp expands these capabilities by providing a regulated, user-friendly entry point into cryptocurrency ownership. It also advances World’s strategy of pairing financial services with its proof-of-humanity credentials, reinforcing its role as both a payments and identity platform.
Global Ambitions
The Stripe collaboration is part of a broader expansion that includes partnerships with Visa, Tinder (Match Group), and Razer. While these earlier initiatives are distinct, they underscore World’s ambition to integrate identity verification and digital assets across mainstream consumer platforms. By combining biometric verification, token incentives, and seamless fiat conversion, World is positioning itself to scale rapidly as both an identity provider and financial network.
As AI-generated identities proliferate online, the combination of biometric verification and integrated payments presents a compelling model for user trust. Stripe’s onramp ensures that verified World ID holders can not only prove their humanity but also participate directly in World’s token economy.
