Staffy Health Introduces Biometric Check-In and Device Policy for Healthcare Contractors

Toronto-based healthcare staffing platform Staffy Health has introduced new digital security measures that combine biometric identity checks with a one-device policy for shift check-ins. The launch marks a first in the Canadian healthcare staffing industry, according to the company.

Biometric Verification at Shift Check-In

The new system requires healthcare workers to verify their identity using fingerprint or facial recognition at the beginning and end of each shift. This is intended to reduce time fraud and identity misrepresentation by creating a secure, auditable record of shift attendance. Staffy says the biometric check-ins form part of a broader effort to bring greater transparency and efficiency to healthcare workforce operations.

“No one asked us to implement these changes — we’re doing it because it’s the right thing to do, and we’re excited to lead the way,” said Peter Faist, Staffy’s founder and CEO.

Device Policy Adds Layer of Security

Alongside biometric check-ins, Staffy is enforcing a new one-device policy for shift verification. Each healthcare professional must use a single registered mobile device to check in and out of their shifts. The company says this measure will help ensure that identity verification occurs consistently from a trusted device, reducing the likelihood of fraud or unauthorized access.

These updates reflect a broader trend in the healthcare and enterprise sectors toward secure identity technologies. For example, iProov recently integrated its biometric authentication technology with Microsoft Entra ID, offering a seamless way to manage workforce access with identity verification built into IT systems.

Staffy Health, founded in 2015, operates as a digital marketplace that connects hospitals, long-term care homes, and other healthcare facilities with vetted professionals, including nurses, personal support workers, and allied health staff. With over 15,000 registered professionals and more than 100,000 shifts filled across North America, the platform emphasizes flexibility, speed, and accountability in its approach to staffing.
