SITA has acquired CCM, a Milan-based expert in airport interior design, in a strategic move aimed at upgrading airport spaces by integrating advanced technology with innovative design. The acquisition is part of SITA’s ongoing efforts to transform airport environments through technological innovation.
The acquisition builds upon SITA’s recent expansion in airport technology solutions, following its successful integration of IPS Intelligent Passenger Solutions and its growing focus on biometric and self-service technologies.
CCM, renowned for its high-quality Italian design, has transformed over 300 airports worldwide during its 35-year history under the Marinoni family’s management. The company’s expertise in creating efficient, functional, and aesthetically pleasing traveler experiences complements SITA’s established leadership in passenger processing, baggage handling, and AI-driven airport operations.
David Lavorel, who has been leading SITA as CEO since 2022, emphasized the transformative nature of this acquisition. “This isn’t just about expanding airports,” he said. “It’s about reimagining them. With CCM’s deep design and execution expertise, we’re transforming airports to maximize their existing footprint, optimize passenger flow, and create smarter, more flexible and valuable airport terminal environments.”
The timing of the acquisition aligns with the findings from SITA’s latest Air Transport IT Insights report, which reveals that 63 percent of airports are prioritizing self-service, biometrics, and mobile apps, with IT spending reaching $8.9 billion. These technological advancements require thoughtful integration with airport infrastructure and design to achieve maximum effectiveness.
Monica Oberti, from CCM’s founding Marinoni family, has been appointed as interim CEO of CCM. Under the new structure, CCM will maintain its operational independence while leveraging SITA’s global presence and technological expertise to enhance airport design solutions.
This acquisition follows SITA’s pattern of strategic growth, including its recent acquisition of Materna IPS and their expansion into maritime transportation technology. The combination of SITA’s technological capabilities with CCM’s design expertise is expected to create comprehensive solutions for airports facing increasing demands for efficient, technology-enabled spaces.
