Shufti and FinTech Association of Hong Kong to Examine Docless Address Verification

Shufti is partnering with the FinTech Association of Hong Kong to host a virtual panel on the future of address verification across the Asia-Pacific region. The webinar is scheduled for May 27 at 5:00 p.m. Hong Kong time and is set to focus on moving beyond traditional document-based proof of address toward data-source and docless verification models.

Proof of address has long been one of the more friction-heavy parts of customer onboarding for regulated financial services, often relying on utility bills or bank statements that the customer scans or uploads. The panel is set to look at where document-only approaches fall short, where enhanced document processing, which treats documents as forensic evidence, still adds value, and where verification against authoritative data sources, or fully docless flows, can replace the document step in appropriate scenarios.

Shufti said the session is also intended to map the regulatory direction across the region. Topics on the agenda include the maturity of digital identity infrastructure by market, where regulated firms have moved verification into production, and the operational controls needed to defend such a process to an auditor. Vietnam’s recent administrative reforms are listed as one of the regulatory examples the panel will discuss.

The panel brings together four speakers. Shirley Liang, Legal and Compliance Chief Operating Officer at DBS Bank, is the moderator. Utpal Patel, Partner at EY, is set to provide a regulatory overview. Nisha Subramanian, Global Head of Onboarding at Aspire, is to speak from the perspective of small and medium enterprise payments, and Ammara Mukhtar, Regional Vice President for Sales in Asia-Pacific at Shufti, is to share client insights. The format is a live panel with audience questions.

Shufti positioned address verification as “one of the most nuanced friction points in digital onboarding, sitting at the intersection of regulatory compliance, fraud risk, and user conversion.” The company offers verification that combines document, biometric, and data-source checks, and has previously achieved iBeta PAD Level 3 conformance for its passive liveness detection.

The webinar is being hosted with the FinTech Association of Hong Kong and is open to the public on registration.
