Sharp Unveils LivMote Thermal Screening Solution

Sharp has released a new infrared thermometer to help businesses reopen during the COVID-19 pandemic. The contactless device has been dubbed the LivMote, and it offers discreet health screening and access control for employees and guests alike.

In that regard, it is worth noting that LivMote does not use facial recognition. Registered employees are instead identified through their smartphones, based on a RFID, NFC, or QR code scan. Organizations can ask those employees to fill out a daily health questionnaire before they arrive at work. Guests, on the other hand, do not need to fill out the questionnaire, and can be cleared after submitting to a temperature check.

Venue operators can manage LivMote using an online dashboard that logs the result of every single scan. The customizable software can be paired with a door lock and an existing timekeeping system to grant access to employees who complete the screening process. Once they do, the doors will open automatically to limit contact with security personnel.

The scan itself takes less than 0.2 seconds, and is accurate to within 0.5°F. The system does not record facial data, but can determine whether or not someone is wearing a mask. LivMote is available through a hardware and cloud subscription model.

LivMote is one of many temperature detection solutions to hit the market in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, though the SIA has warned that many of those solutions do not meet the necessary standards for medical devices. That seems to be less of a concern with LivMote, which is fully compliant with the latest HIPAA regulations.
