Regula’s ID Document Database Hits 15,000 Templates, Sets Industry Record

Regula, a global developer of forensic devices and identity verification solutions, has expanded its identity document template database to 15,000 templates, establishing it as the industry’s largest reference collection. The milestone announcement comes as the company continues to enhance its capabilities in verifying advanced biometric documents and latest-generation IDs with high accuracy.

The expanded database now covers identity documents from 251 countries and territories, with support for 138 national languages. The news is particularly significant given the growing global focus on digital identity verification and the increasing complexity of identity documents worldwide.

“The growing complexity of identity documents presents notable challenges for ID verification workflows,” said Ihar Kliashchou, Chief Technology Officer at Regula. “Businesses and government agencies must be prepared to properly verify all the document security features so as not to miss any forgery or identity fraud attempts. Furthermore, they have to handle multiple ID versions from the same country simultaneously, as many older documents remain in circulation alongside the new formats.”

The database update includes several notable additions, particularly in the realm of biometric passports. New entries include the first-ever biometric passports from India, Sri Lanka, and Guyana, as well as updated passport formats from Azerbaijan, Benin, Burkina Faso, Chile, and Germany. This expansion aligns with the growing trend of nations adopting sophisticated biometric passport systems.

The update also encompasses new ID cards from Argentina, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Chile, Guatemala, and Jamaica, along with updated driver’s licenses from various jurisdictions including Azerbaijan, Denmark, Honduras, Iran, and several U.S. states such as Michigan, Mississippi, and Wisconsin.

A notable trend revealed in the database expansion is the increasing shift from paper substrates to polycarbonate pages in identity documents, a change that significantly enhances security against counterfeiting. Countries including Benin, Burkina Faso, Chile, and Djibouti have recently implemented this advanced security feature in their new identity documents.

The news follows Regula’s reported 52 percent growth in global users and their recent proactive updates to support new ISO facial data standards, demonstrating the company’s continued commitment to advancing identity verification technology.
