RefAssured and ID.me Bring Identity Verification to the Front of Staffing Placement Pipelines

RefAssured, an automated reference-checking platform built for staffing agencies, has integrated ID.me’s identity verification into its placement workflow, creating a solution that confirms candidate identity at the start of the hiring process rather than as a final compliance step.

The combined product embeds ID.me’s digital identity wallet into RefAssured’s existing ATS connections, which the company says span every major staffing applicant tracking system. When a recruiter initiates a reference check, they can now simultaneously trigger identity verification through ID.me, pulling from a base of over 160 million existing wallet holders who can authenticate in seconds. Candidates already enrolled with ID.me complete verification without additional friction; new users go through a standard onboarding flow.

The integration targets a structural problem in staffing: most identity checks happen at the end of the placement lifecycle, after a candidate has already been presented to a client. By that point, a fraudulent candidate who passes initial screening has already consumed recruiter time and, if undetected, can erode the agency’s client relationship. RefAssured’s approach moves the check to the point of reference collection, before any candidate reaches a client’s talent pool.

Brian Vesce, CEO of RefAssured, described the fraud environment as reaching “epidemic levels” in staffing, citing the use of deepfakes and AI-generated credentials by organized fraud rings. “By combining identity verification and performance validation, we’re ensuring the integrity of the hiring process,” Vesce said. The performance validation component draws on RefAssured’s database of 1.5 million reference reports, representing 30 million structured data points on candidate soft skills, hard skills, and behavioral attributes.

For ID.me, the partnership extends the company’s reach into commercial enterprise workflows beyond its core government and financial services base. ID.me’s growing enterprise footprint has expanded to include Medicare.gov and FINRA, and the staffing sector represents a different application layer: recurring, high-volume identity checks embedded into private-sector hiring at scale.

The broader pattern of identity verification entering the staffing sector has accelerated as deepfake-assisted fraud and synthetic identity use become more common in recruitment. RefAssured is positioning the solution as an industry-wide standard shift: identity first, performance second, client submission last.

Enterprise staffing firms including Vaco by Highspring, Kelly Services, and Ingenovis Health are existing RefAssured customers. The fraud prevention solution powered by ID.me is available immediately.
