ReadID Biometric Verification Now Certified for Highest EU Identity Standard

ReadID uses Near Field Communication (NFC) technology to extract and verify data from electronic identity documents like passports and ID cards. The system allows organizations to authenticate identities remotely by reading data directly from document chips, incorporating features such as liveness detection and biometric verification to prevent fraud.

The ETSI 119 461 standard, established by the European Telecommunications Standards Institute, sets requirements for identity proofing and trust services in the EU. It covers the complete identity verification process, from initial proofing to attribute collection and verification, supporting unattended remote verification while maintaining strict security measures.

This certification comes as the EU continues developing its European Digital Identity (EUDI) wallet initiative, which aims to provide EU citizens with a standardized digital tool for storing and sharing identity credentials across borders. The ETSI standard aligns with requirements for the upcoming eIDAS 2.0 regulation, which will govern the EUDI wallet ecosystem.

Inverid’s renewed eIDAS certification includes compliance with the module for Qualified Trust Service Providers and electronic identification at the “High” assurance level. This builds on the company’s existing security certifications, which include ISO 27001, ISO/IEC 27701, and SOC 2 Type II.

The certification achievements align with broader industry trends, as testing and validation of digital identity technologies continues across Europe. The standards compliance could prove particularly relevant for financial institutions needing to meet anti-money laundering (AML) and counter-terrorism financing (CTF) requirements through remote identity verification.
