Proton Pass, the password manager from the creators of Proton VPN, has introduced new features on its first anniversary to enhance user experience and security. The latest updates include the ability to store detailed personal information and the addition of biometric authentication for Windows and MacOS apps, though the latter is only available in some subscription plans.
With the new features, Proton Pass now supports biometric authentication through Windows Hello and Touch ID. This provides an added layer of security and convenience, enabling users to unlock Proton Pass using facial recognition or fingerprint scanning.
The new identity data feature allows users to store and autofill personal information such as names, addresses, contact numbers, social security numbers, passport numbers, and more. The capability aims to streamline the management of personal information, reducing errors and saving time, especially when completing online forms.
Research cited by Proton indicates that lengthy or complicated forms often lead to abandonment, with the average form taking around 8.5 minutes to complete.
“With the introduction of identities and biometric authentication, Proton Pass is significantly boosting productivity for our users,” said Proton Pass Product Lead Son Nguyen Kim of the new features. “These features not only enhance our security offerings but also streamline everyday tasks, allowing users to save time and reduce stress in managing their digital lives.”
Proton Pass now joins a number of other password managers to offer biometric authentication as a layer of protection for users, including iOS’s built-in password manager and NordPass.
The new features are available immediately, with biometric authentication available for those on a Pass Plus plan or higher. The minimum plan costs $23.88 per year or $4.99 per month.
