This change follows the 2024 launch of the digital ID system, which incorporates selfie-based onboarding and biometric verification. The government aims to enroll all citizens by the end of 2025.
The PSA has integrated its PSAHelpline platform with the National ID system, enabling citizens to request birth, marriage, and death certificates online after identity verification. The platform features QR code verification and liveness checks, while allowing verified ID holders to designate trusted family members to collect certificates on their behalf.
Financial institutions are promoting adoption among unbanked populations by offering free account opening services to National ID registrants through mobile devices. Asia United Bank (AUB) has pioneered this effort as the first local bank to incorporate National ID authentication into its HelloMoney mobile wallet app. Since September 2024, AUB has registered approximately 94,000 users through the National ID system.
To resolve previous physical ID distribution challenges, the PSA is deploying mobile card printers across multiple locations, following the termination of its contract with the national ID card supplier due to delays. This action comes after official warnings against unauthorized digital ID printing in 2024.
As of November of last year, the PSA reported 91,286,252 total National ID registrations. The program aims to establish a unified digital identity framework that enhances both public and private sector transactions and service delivery.
