Defense and technology contractor Parsons has launched AresNXT, a multimodal biometrics platform for identity checks in critical infrastructure, national security operations, and large-scale events, and says it has already run the system in a federal law enforcement pilot.
AresNXT collects, processes, and verifies biometric and biographic data, including fingerprints, facial recognition, and iris scans, and connects to secure back-end repositories for near real-time verification. Combining several biometric traits in one system lets an operator fall back to another modality when one produces a weak match, such as a worn fingerprint or an obscured face. Parsons says the platform runs across iOS, Android, and Windows, which lets agencies deploy it on devices they already own rather than buying dedicated hardware, and that it works in both connected and offline environments, useful for field work where network access is unreliable.
Encryption on the platform is aligned with Department of War, FBI, and Electronic Biometric Transmission Specification standards, the last being the FBI’s format for exchanging fingerprints and other biometric data between agencies and national databases, and the system ties into the company’s Ares Gateway for centralized data management. The platform extends a biometrics line that Parsons, a publicly traded company, has built largely around government and defense work, from a real-time biometric vetting system deployed to screen access to US Navy ships in foreign ports to a US Army contract for next-generation biometric collection.
Developed through the company’s internal research and development program, AresNXT is aimed at critical infrastructure protection, law enforcement, and event security. Parsons says the platform is already being tested in the field: in one pilot, a federal law enforcement client deployed AresNXT in Washington, D.C., issuing licenses to field agents on iOS devices, and the company reported gains in speed and accuracy along with reduced system complexity.
“AresNXT is designed to meet the growing demand for fast, reliable identity verification in mission-critical environments,” said Martin Boson, president of Engineered Systems for Parsons. The company said the platform is part of a biometrics portfolio it supplies to customers including the Department of Homeland Security, Department of State, and Department of War.
