Onfido and INTERPOL are preparing to pool their expertise on identity document fraud in an upcoming webinar.
Entitled “How do you tackle 3D fraud in a 2D world?“, the panel discussion will be a timely one in the age of COVID-19 and remote digital services. It’s premised on the idea that whereas identity documents have traditionally been vetted in-person, through mechanisms like shining UV lights and close physical inspection of document materials, the massive uptick in online transactions means that IDs increasingly need to be authenticated over the two dimensions afforded through a computer or smartphone screen.
To make matters worse, end users might be presenting document images that have been captured in bad lighting conditions or with a low-quality camera.
Onfido has solutions to these problems, of course. The company is known for its sophisticated AI-driven authentication technology, which revolves around comparing the face biometrics of a selfie image to those presented in a picture of an official identity document. Accordingly, Onfido’s Global Head of Fraud, Michael Van Gestel, will be on hand for the panel discussion to relay Onfido’s expertise.
INTERPOL, meanwhile, has some expertise of its own, as the world’s major transnational police force. The organization will have two representatives on the panel from its Counterfeit Currency and Security Documents Branch: Coordinator Daniela Djidrovska, and Forensic Analyst Malik Alibegovic.
The panelists’ scheduled appearance represents the latest development in an ongoing collaborative relationship between Onfido and INTERPOL, with the former having delivered a three-day training course on fraud detection for INTERPOL in March of 2019.
The forthcoming webinar is slated to begin at 2:00 p.m. CET on September 17th, and registration is now open and free of charge.
