OneSpan has opened early access to a digital credentials solution that lets organizations issue, manage, and verify identities held in digital wallets through a single integration layer. The company is pitching the service for customer onboarding and authentication as eIDAS 2.0 drives wallet adoption across the European Union, and introduced it at the Identiverse conference in Las Vegas.
The service is built to sit across a fragmented wallet landscape rather than tie an organization to one wallet. Through a single integration, a business can accept and verify credentials presented from different digital wallets, drawing on identity data the holder has already had verified rather than asking them to upload documents and selfies again at onboarding. OneSpan frames the credentials as reusable across interactions, so a verification done once can be presented and checked later without repeating the document-capture step.
The service is designed to work alongside an organization’s existing authentication stack. Rather than replacing multi-factor authentication or passkeys, the digital credentials layer is meant to plug into those methods, adding a wallet-based way to establish and reuse identity on top of the login and step-up checks a business already runs. The early-access framing signals that OneSpan is inviting organizations to test the approach ahead of broader availability rather than shipping a finished product.
“Digital credentials represent a fundamental shift in how identity is established and reused across digital interactions,” said Ashish Jain, Chief Technology Officer at OneSpan, tying the launch to a move away from document-based verification. The timing tracks the eIDAS 2.0 calendar: EU member states are to provide digital identity wallets by the end of 2026, and relying parties such as banks face obligations to accept wallets for onboarding and authentication by the end of 2027.
The launch extends work OneSpan has already been doing in the European wallet ecosystem. The company joined the WE BUILD and Aptitude large-scale pilots testing how the EU Digital Identity Wallet will work in practice, part of a broader industry argument that eIDAS 2.0 shifts onboarding from document-based KYC to wallet-based digital identity verification.
