Nigeria Implements Biometric KYC Requirements for Starlink Subscribers

Nigeria’s communications regulator has extended subscriber identity verification requirements to satellite broadband services, with Starlink users facing potential service suspension if they failed to complete a mandated biometric update by December 31, 2025.

According to reporting by TechCabal, the Nigerian Communications Commission issued a directive in August 2025 requiring Starlink subscribers to complete updated identity verification, aligning satellite internet services with SIM registration-style rules long applied to mobile operators. The initial compliance window was three months and was later extended to the end of 2025.

TechCabal reports that Starlink notified customers by email on December 29, 2025, stating that the biometric update process takes less than two minutes to complete. The notice also warned that customers whose service is suspended for non-compliance may face delays in reactivation due to network capacity constraints in certain areas.

Starlink’s support documentation confirms that in some countries the company is required to collect additional identification information to comply with local regulations, with users instructed to upload requested information through their account interface.
