NEC Corporation of America has teamed up with Vidyo Inc. to bring the latter’s video conferencing and embedded video technology into its cloud-based offerings.
The agreement will cover the North American market, and will see NEC resell its partner’s VidyoCloud solution as an integrated part of its UNIVERGE BLUE cloud platform. Vidyo’s face-to-face teleconferencing technology underlies a new system called NEC OnDemand Collaboration, which NEC says can support up to 100 video conferencing participants per room, though hopefully the technology will never be used to organize such a nightmare of a meeting.
NEC is aiming the combined solution primarily at the enterprise sector, but in a statement announcing the partnership, NEC Corporation of America VP Larry Levenberg pointed to a wide range of applications that could result from the companies’ collaboration. “Leveraging Vidyo’s flexible APIs and cloud services, we will bring new solutions to market—spanning emerging IoT endpoints and an array of vertical applications in surveillance and biometrics, healthcare, distance learning, monitoring and hospitality and retail,” he said.
News of the partnership comes after NEC Corporation of America announced a new CEO, Masahiro Ikeno, last November.
