National Cybersecurity Alliance Launches Data Privacy Week 2026 With Digital Identity and Biometrics on Agenda

The National Cybersecurity Alliance (NCA) has launched Data Privacy Week 2026, a campaign running from January 26 through January 30 with the theme “Take Control of Your Data.” The organization’s announcement highlights digital identity and biometric data among the topics to be addressed through webinars and educational programming.

Data Privacy Week is positioned as a public awareness effort aimed at individuals, families, and organizations. NCA said the 2026 schedule includes live and pre-recorded webinars, interactive panels, and educational sessions focused on how personal data is collected, used, and shared, as well as what practical controls people can use to manage data exposure.

According to the NCA’s release, planned sessions span a range of privacy issues with relevance to identity verification and digital credential ecosystems. Topics listed include AI and data practices, children’s online privacy, age verification, privacy law, dynamic pricing, data deletion rights, and biometric data. The campaign’s framing connects these issues to everyday digital services and encourages more deliberate consumer and organizational choices around data handling.

The campaign’s events schedule includes a kickoff session on January 26 focused on AI chatbots and personal data collection and use, the NCA said. Additional sessions listed on the schedule include a webinar on dynamic pricing on January 29, a session on the “right to be forgotten” on January 30, and a privacy trivia session on January 30.

By explicitly listing digital identity, age verification, and biometric data as agenda items, the 2026 program touches areas where privacy and governance decisions can shape both consumer trust and regulatory expectations. Digital identity wallets and identity verification services often rely on sensitive data, including government-issued identifiers and biometric samples, which makes questions around consent, retention, and deletion central to product design and program rollout. For biometric systems in particular, the way templates are stored and the conditions under which data is retained can be as important to users as the accuracy of the technology.

NCA Executive Director Lisa Plaggemier said Data Privacy Week 2026 is intended to help people understand how personal information moves through the digital world.
