Texas-based startup Moveris has introduced a developer portal and API for its novel video deepfake detection technology, which analyzes subtle physiological signals to verify human liveness. The company claims its approach is “future-proof” against the rapid evolution of generative AI because it relies on patterns from psychophysiological research that cannot be replicated by artificial intelligence.
The new offering, the MoverisMedia API, allows developers to upload or submit a link to a recorded video for analysis, with results displayed in real-time on an intuitive dashboard. Moveris is positioning the technology as a powerful tool for industries battling sophisticated fraud, particularly the financial sector, where it can be integrated into Know Your Customer (KYC) and Anti-Money Laundering (AML) checks. The company is offering developers 50 complimentary tokens to begin prototyping with the API.
Moveris’ technology marks a departure from many common liveness detection methods that rely on scripted user interactions (e.g., “turn your head to the left”) or basic biometric markers. Instead, MoverisMedia analyzes involuntary physiological signals and micro-expressions to distinguish between a live human and a digital impersonation. This technique is rooted in the understanding that while generative AI can create visually convincing deepfakes, it cannot yet accurately simulate the complex and subtle psychophysiological responses inherent to a living person. This focus on un-replicable human traits is a strategic bet that as deepfake technology becomes more sophisticated, detection methods based on spotting digital artifacts will become less reliable, whereas methods based on verifying authentic human biological signals will remain robust.
The release of a developer-friendly API is a critical go-to-market strategy. Rather than building a closed, end-to-end solution, Moveris is providing a tool that can be easily integrated into existing platforms and workflows. This approach lowers the barrier to adoption for companies that have already invested heavily in their own onboarding and security systems. By enabling other platforms to simply plug in its advanced detection capabilities, Moveris can achieve broader market penetration more quickly. The endorsement from Qualzy, a global online research platform, whose CCO called the technology the “most efficient method to verify users are human,” suggests that this integration-friendly model is already resonating with potential clients who see it as a way to prevent billions in fraud annually.
The launch comes at a time when the threat of deepfake fraud is escalating, making the need for effective countermeasures more urgent than ever. As ID Tech has detailed in its coverage of deepfake detection developments, cybercriminals are using AI-generated content for everything from account opening fraud to sophisticated social engineering attacks. Moveris CEO Dr. Justin Keene highlighted the immediate need for such technology in the financial sector, but the potential applications extend to any industry where remote identity verification is critical.
Moveris’ focus on psychophysiological signals represents an innovative new front in the technological arms race against deepfakes. The availability of its API will allow the broader security and identity industry to test the efficacy of this approach and, if successful, could inspire a new generation of liveness detection tools grounded in the life sciences rather than just computer vision.
