Maison Solutions, a California-based specialty grocery retailer, disclosed in a September 29 Form 8-K filing that it has entered a Securities Purchase Agreement for up to 70 million dollars in convertible notes. The company said it plans to use the proceeds to establish a digital-asset treasury centered on Worldcoin’s WLD token.
The accompanying press release describes Worldcoin as combining a privacy-preserving World ID credential with the Orb device, which verifies proof-of-humanity, and a blockchain known as World Chain that supports decentralized identity checks. Maison Solutions positioned the project as a foundation for potential new services in its grocery operations.
The filing outlines possible use cases tied to customer identity, including loyalty programs verified through proof-of-humanity to prevent coupon fraud, and customer engagement tools that authenticate survey and review participants as human. The company also said it will evaluate joining the World Network and may consider deploying Orb devices at select stores for in-person World ID verification. The filing emphasizes that no applications have been submitted or approvals granted, and that any blockchain initiatives will remain subject to applicable regulations.
The disclosure marks an unusual case of a U.S. retailer tying both financing and potential in-store programs to Worldcoin. Maison Solutions highlighted identity-verified loyalty, proof-of-humanity checks for customer engagement, and the possibility of Orb deployment as ways World ID could connect to physical retail. Similar concepts have been outlined in Worldcoin’s push to expand World ID verification globally and its white paper on proof-of-humanity.
