LeTV Max Pro To Feature Multimodal Biometrics

An upcoming smartphone from China-based electronics company LeTV will reportedly feature highly advanced biometric capabilities.

Called the LeTV Max Pro, the device is said to sport an ultrasonic fingerprint sensor, which should offer highly sophisticated fingerprint imaging that is less susceptible to spoofing, if other examples of the technology are any indication. It’s also going to feature iris scanning, following in the new eye-based biometrics trend set forth by the Fujitsu Arrows NX F-02H and Microsoft’s Lumia 950 smartphones.

The advanced biometric technologies complement other high-end features including a Snapdragon 820 processor, 64GB internal memory, a 21MP camera (together with a 4MP rear-facing camera), and a high-resolution 2560×1440 display, according to GSMArena.

It isn’t yet clear when the device will launch, but LeTV has scheduled a press event just ahead of the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas next month, indicating that a release should be imminent. It also suggests the company plans a considerable level of hype for the device, which could help to further promote biometric sensor features on smartphones in general.
