Kyrgyzstan Launches 2025-Model Biometric Passport with Over 30 Advanced Security Features

The Kyrgyz Republic launched its new-generation 2025-model biometric passport with issuance to citizens beginning the same day. The new e-passport complies with ICAO standards and features a completely new design reflecting national symbols while incorporating a suite of advanced security features to combat forgery and strengthen border control.

The passport is embedded with more than 30 distinct security features across three classification levels, building on earlier regional modernization efforts. Key upgrades include a cryptographic chip, laser engraving of personal data, innovative holograms and kinegrams, and UV printing. The data page is secured by two transparent windows, one uniquely shaped in the form of a Kyrgyz ornament.

Each visa page within the booklet serves as a security feature, illustrating national landmarks and cultural symbols such as the image of Manas, Khan Tengri Peak, and the Yntymak Ordo residence. The passport cover has been updated with the new Kyrgyz State Emblem.

Perhaps most significant is domestic production. The entire document production cycle has been transferred to the state-owned printing house, Uchkun JSC, whose infrastructure was modernized to handle domestic production of all biometric passports and internal ID cards, a process that began in May 2024. This move represents a strategy to achieve digital sovereignty over identity document supply and lays the foundation for a state-owned export business. Uchkun JSC has signed contracts to produce and ship biometric passports to Namibia and Ghana.

The rollout is voluntary for citizens, who can apply for the new passport upon request or when their current document expires.
