Keyfactor Raises More Than One Billion Dollars for Machine Identity and Post-Quantum Trust

Keyfactor has secured a strategic growth investment of more than one billion dollars led by Summit Partners, capital the machine identity company plans to put toward managing the digital certificates and cryptographic keys that authenticate software, devices, and, increasingly, AI agents.

Existing investors Insight Partners and Sixth Street Growth will keep significant ownership after the deal closes, and Summit managing directors Andy Collins and Colin Mistele will join Keyfactor’s board. The company said the money would fund product development, geographic expansion, hiring, and acquisitions.

Keyfactor manages what the industry calls machine identity: the certificates and keys that let non-human entities prove who they are to one another. Its Trust Control Plane is designed to give security teams visibility into those identities and cryptographic assets across cloud, on-premises, and hybrid systems, and to automate parts of the certificate lifecycle. The company said it issues and manages billions of machine identities and serves more than 2,500 customers, and that it reached FedRAMP certification earlier this year.

The investment lands amid a broader push to prepare digital infrastructure for post-quantum cryptography, the migration to algorithms designed to withstand future quantum computers. Keyfactor pointed to White House executive orders issued in June to accelerate that transition ahead of 2030, and framed post-quantum readiness, shrinking certificate lifespans, tightening regulation, and the growth of machine identities as converging pressures on enterprises. Device and chip makers are preparing for the same shift; SEALSQ has unveiled post-quantum security for GSMA-certified eSIM technology.

“Trust infrastructure has become the foundation that every enterprise, government agency, and AI-driven organization depends on, and Keyfactor is the platform built to manage it at scale,” said Jordan Rackie, chief executive of Keyfactor. Piper Sandler advised Summit Partners on the transaction, and Qatalyst Partners advised Keyfactor.
