Kaohsiung International Airport has signed a seven-year agreement with SITA to modernize its passenger processing infrastructure, introducing next-generation systems to streamline check-in, boarding, and airport operations. The deal positions Taiwan’s second-largest international hub at the forefront of Asia’s airport digital transformation efforts.
The partnership includes deployment of the latest Common Use Terminal Equipment (CUTE), Common Use Self-Service (CUSS) kiosks, and the Local Departure Control System (LDCS). These systems enable airlines to share check-in counters, allow passengers to complete self-service check-in and bag tag printing, and ensure flight operations remain uninterrupted even if main airline systems experience downtime.
The LDCS feature adds a critical layer of resilience, allowing boarding to continue even if the primary Departure Control System becomes unavailable. According to SITA, the solution boosts operational stability and helps airports maintain passenger flow during peak periods or network interruptions.
“Across Asia, passenger numbers are climbing fast, and airports are under pressure to deliver efficient operations without compromising the travel experience,” said Sumesh Patel, President for Asia Pacific at SITA. “By adopting next-generation passenger processing, Kaohsiung is setting a benchmark for how airports can combine speed, resilience, and flexibility.”
The move strengthens SITA’s presence across Taiwan, where it already supports all major international airports. The company has also expanded its regional footprint through projects that integrate biometric and digital processing tools, including a recent biometric arrivals system from SITA at Honolulu International Airport, which cut passenger wait times by twenty-five percent and reduced processing times by seventy-four percent.
Guojie Chen, CTO of Kaohsiung International Airport’s Airlines Operation Committee, said the modernization effort supports the airport’s long-term growth strategy. “By expanding our shared systems with SITA, we improve efficiency, reduce congestion, and enhance resilience across check-in and boarding,” he said. “We look forward to continuing this partnership as we respond to rising travel demand and innovate our services.”
