Jamf has announced plans to acquire Identity Automation, a cloud-based identity and access management provider, in a deal valued at $215 million. The acquisition aims to enhance Jamf’s endpoint management and security platform by incorporating Identity Automation’s dynamic role-based access capabilities, particularly benefiting sectors like education and healthcare where user roles frequently change.
The move follows a broader industry trend of strategic acquisitions in the identity security space, similar to CyberArk’s recent $175 million acquisition of Zilla Security, as companies seek to expand their identity management capabilities and market presence.
Identity Automation’s flagship product, RapidIdentity, specializes in automated identity lifecycle management, providing features such as policy-driven access governance and multi-factor authentication with Single Sign-On capabilities. The platform is particularly valuable in environments requiring frequent role adjustments and secure access management.
John Strosahl, CEO of Jamf, emphasized the strategic importance of the acquisition. “By bringing our security solutions together, we’re creating a more streamlined and user-friendly experience that enables fast, dynamic access to all the resources users need to be productive,” he said. “This is especially crucial for organizations with shared-device models, deskless workers, temporary staff, or contractors.”
The integration will maintain compatibility with existing identity providers, including Okta, Clever, ClassLink, and Microsoft Active Directory, while enhancing Jamf’s ability to serve mobile-centric industries.
“As technology becomes more integral to the learning experience, safeguarding student data, securing access, and preventing cyber threats are more important than ever,” said Identity Automation CEO Jim Harold. “With Jamf, we will take great strides in further protecting and nurturing digital learning.”
The transaction, expected to close by the end of Q2 FY2025, will be supported by Kirkland & Ellis LLP as legal adviser to Jamf, while Identity Automation is being advised by Macquarie Capital and McDermott Will & Emery LLP.
