Innovatrics and Boom ID Add Contactless Palm Recognition for Post-Login Authorization

Biometrics firm Innovatrics has partnered with Boom ID to add contactless palm recognition to Boom ID’s identity authorization platform, targeting the moments after login when an organization needs to confirm who is approving a sensitive action.

Palm recognition identifies a person from the pattern of creases and features on the palm, which can be captured at a short distance with an ordinary camera rather than a contact scanner, making it quicker and more hygienic than pressing a finger to a reader. Slovakia-based Innovatrics is known for the fingerprint and facial recognition algorithms it supplies to government identity programs, and the partnership pairs its palm technology with Boom ID’s platform, which is built to verify who is carrying out critical actions across digital and physical environments.

The distinction the two companies draw is between authentication, proving who logs in, and authorization, confirming that the same verified person is the one approving a consequential step later in a session. The integration adds a biometric confirmation for workflows such as approving high-value transactions, granting secure access, workforce verification, visitor management, and vendor authorization. It uses a palm scan captured with standard cameras, paired with Innovatrics liveness detection, which checks that a live person is present rather than a photo or video replay, and is designed to fit into existing workflows without dedicated hardware.

Palm biometrics has been gaining ground in exactly these authorization settings, with Amazon bringing its palm-scanning system to enterprise access and Alipay building contactless palm recognition into payment authorization in China. Innovatrics and Boom ID are positioning palm as a way to extend identity assurance beyond the initial sign-in to the point where a decision is actually made.

“Identity has to be confirmed at the moment of action,” said Greg Hill, chief operating officer of Boom ID. Working with Innovatrics, he said, lets Boom ID apply proven palm biometrics at those decision points. Jan Lunter, chief executive of Innovatrics, said the company had spent two decades building biometric algorithms used by governments and saw palm as one of the more promising modalities for everyday identity.
