Another card manufacturer has been given the go-ahead for a biometric payment card that features Zwipe’s fingerprint biometrics technology. Inkript is a digital security specialist that operates out of Lebanon, and ships upwards of 70 million cards to clients throughout the Middle East and Africa region on an annual basis.
The company has now received a Visa Letter of Approval for a new card built with the Zwipe Pay biometric payments platform. Zwipe Pay received Visa certification in March of this year, a feat that in turn sped up the approval process for Zwipe clients using the solution in their own card designs. TAG Systems, for instance, got its own Visa Letter of Approval only a week after Zwipe’s Visa certification came through the pipeline.
The news represents the culmination of Inkript’s partnership with Zwipe. The two companies first joined forces back in 2019, and moved forward with an initial biometric card trial in the fall of 2020. Inkript then placed a large follow-up order roughly one year later, in anticipation of the mass commercialization of biometric cards.
Now that it has a Letter of Approval, Inkript will be able to start distributing its biometric payment cards to financial institutions all over the world. The cards can be used with the Visa payment scheme, and should help meet the growing demand for secure and convenient payment options.
“This LoA comes at a timely point with strong interest from issuers in the MEA region,” said Inkript Managing Director Riad Itani. “Many banks have already signed with us, and we are ready to meet their expectations across the region.”
“We are pleased to see that Inkript has now received the Visa LoA for their biometric cards based on the Zwipe Pay platform,” added Zwipe MEA General Manager Ramzi Saboury. “Achieving this milestone has a very positive impact on the commercial rollout of Zwipe Pay enabled biometric payment cards in the region.”
Zwipe indicated that the biometric card market is accelerating in its most recent quarterly report. The Central Bank of Iraq has also endorsed the company as it continues to raise its profile in the Middle East.
