Imprivata Acquires Verosint to Deepen Identity Threat Detection and Passwordless Access

Imprivata has acquired Verosint, an Identity Threat Detection and Response (ITDR) specialist, in a deal aimed at embedding continuous risk signaling across the company’s enterprise access management platform. The acquisition brings Verosint’s AI-driven risk engine and behavioral analytics into Imprivata’s portfolio, which already underpins access control for healthcare and other mission and life-critical industries.

Imprivata plans to integrate Verosint’s ITDR capabilities with its Enterprise Access Management offerings to support more adaptive, passwordless access. By combining risk signals with strong authenticators such as FIDO passkeys and face-based authentication, the company aims to dynamically adjust authentication requirements based on user behavior, device posture, and other contextual factors. The approach is intended to reduce friction for legitimate users while making it harder for attackers to exploit compromised credentials or shared workstations.

In announcing the transaction, Imprivata leadership has framed risk understanding as a core requirement for modern access systems, arguing that real-time insight into anomalous activity is needed to make better authentication decisions. The company positions the deal as part of a broader strategy to unify single sign-on, privileged access management, and ITDR into a single platform serving frontline staff, knowledge workers, and third-party identities. Verosint’s technology is expected to help detect account takeover attempts, unusual access patterns, and other identity-driven threats as they occur.

The acquisition speaks to rising interest in identity-centric defenses that go beyond static MFA. Clinical environments in particular have struggled to balance rapid access to electronic medical records with strong security controls. Imprivata is betting that tightly integrated ITDR can help reconcile those demands, giving organizations a way to maintain fast workflows while automatically stepping up authentication or terminating sessions when risk indicators spike.

The Verosint acquisition continues Imprivata’s expansion strategy in the identity security space. The company previously acquired Xton Technologies in 2021 and completed its SecureLink acquisition in 2022. Imprivata has also partnered with Microsoft and integrated with IDEMIA and Aware for biometric authentication in healthcare settings.
