IDEX Sponsors Girls into Electronics Event in London

IDEX Biometrics has officially signed on as a sponsor of the 2019 Girls into Electronics event in London. The event kicks off on July 9th, and is hosted by the Electronic Engineering department at Royal Holloway University of London in conjunction with the Smallpiece Trust and the UK Electronics Skills Foundation (UKESF).

Girls into Electronics gives girls the opportunity to experience three days of labs, lectures, and other activities – including robotics instruction – that were set up to foster their curiosity and promote diversity in engineering.

“We simply can’t afford to ignore nearly half of the population if we are serious about tackling the UK’s shortage of Electronics designers and engineers,” said UKESF CEO Stewart Edmondson. “We want to ensure that everyone can explore their own interests and talents unencumbered by society’s expectations of them.”

“We are delighted to support the excellent work being done to encourage young people to consider a career in Electronics,” added IDEX HR VP Sarah Mathews. “The sector still has a long way to go in the quest for wider diversity, and existing technology organisations play a key role in encouraging broader participation.”

Girls into Electronics will take place in the Beatrice Shilling building. IDEX is best known for fingerprint sensors and biometric payment cards rather than robotics, but events like Girls into Electronics should help make engineering more diverse and boost the health of the entire technology ecosystem.
