Identity Week America Preview Promises Exclusive Announcements

Exclusive announcements are anticipated at this year’s Identity Week America event in Washington, D.C., according to IdentityWeek.net editor Evie Kim Sing. Joining the latest episode of the ID Talk podcast, Evie offered listeners an in-depth preview of next month’s major identity industry conference.

While the specifics remain under wraps, Evie’s comment positions the conference as a critical venue for breaking news and major developments. “There’s going to be a lot of, obviously, exclusive announcements that you’ll only be able to hear if you’re at the event,” she explained.

The conversation began with a look back at the recent success of Identity Week Europe in Amsterdam, which Evie said was an “amazing” show where the team’s hard work paid off. “There was definitely a lovely buzz about the show this year,” she commented, a sentiment the hosts readily agreed with.

Now, that energy is being channeled toward the D.C. event. Evie noted that Identity Week America is a hub that brings together public sector representatives and an ever-expanding list of private industries. “We’ve got a really diverse agenda of those verticals this year,” she said, adding that sectors like “finance, travel authorities, retail and ecommerce has really grown in our representation at the events, telcos, health care. They all converge.”

A key part of the agenda will be a focus on official and foundational identity. Evie highlighted a planned presentation from representatives of the Utah state government on their pioneering mobile Driver’s License (mDL) program. This focus on state-level digital ID comes at a time of intense industry interest in the new NIST Digital Identity Guidelines (800−63 Revision 4).

The dual-edged nature of artificial intelligence will also be in the spotlight. The discussion touched upon sessions covering emerging fraud vectors, with a NIST computer scientist slated to discuss the threat of face morphing and a Cloud Security Alliance expert tackling how deepfakes “change the game of fraud.” At the same time, the event will showcase AI’s positive applications in verification and biometrics. “We’re seeing the evolution of how these technologies can meet demands in sectors,” Evie noted.

This evolution is seeing identity technology move beyond security and into customer experience. Evie pointed to a session on “reimagining stadium experiences” as an example of biometrics entering new domains. “You don’t perhaps think about how frictionless biometric entry can benefit entertainment venues and spaces like that,” she said. “But, really, this technology is going into all manners of personalized experiences and automated journeys.”

Ultimately, the discussion underscored the immense value of attending industry events in person. Evie advised that for professionals looking to make connections and advance their goals, “Networking is your golden ticket.”
