IDEMIA’s ID-One PIV 243 Becomes First New PIV Card Added to GSA List in Four Years

IDEMIA’s latest smart card, the ID-One PIV 243, has become the first new Personal Identity Verification (PIV) card to be added to the U.S. General Services Administration’s (GSA) Approved Products List (APL) in four years. The card received overall Level 2 validation under the National Institute of Standards and Technology’s (NIST) FIPS 140-3 standard for cryptographic modules, with certain categories – such as physical security and roles/services – achieving Level 3 ratings.

New Milestone for Federal Identity Credentials

To earn a place on the GSA APL, the ID-One PIV 243 card underwent rigorous testing to ensure it complies with federal technical and interoperability standards, including those set by NIST’s FIPS 201-3. These standards were introduced as part of Homeland Security Presidential Directive 12 (HSPD-12), which mandates secure and reliable identity credentials for federal employees and contractors.

IDEMIA noted that this represents the first new addition to the Approved PIV Card list in four years, highlighting the card’s significance in the evolving federal identity ecosystem.

IDEMIA has reinforced its role in federal security infrastructure with this latest offering. The card supports role-based authentication, secure cryptographic functions, and physical safeguards designed to protect sensitive government systems and facilities.

Secure ID Expands as Remote Work Continues

The addition of the ID-One PIV 243 comes at a time when secure digital identity solutions are more essential than ever. Federal agencies continue to support hybrid and remote work models following the widespread disruptions caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. In 2020, NextgenID introduced supervised remote in-person identity proofing services to help agencies meet compliance requirements during periods of limited in-person contact.

The FIPS 140-3 certification process validates not only the card’s cryptographic strength but also its operational and physical protections. These features are critical for maintaining secure access to federal networks, facilities, and data repositories.

With its addition to the APL, the ID-One PIV 243 is now available for deployment across U.S. federal agencies and contractors that require trusted, standards-compliant identity credentials.
