“…IDEMIA’s F-Code revolves around fingerprint authentication. It features an embedded Fingerprint Cards sensor, designed to confirm users’ identities as they process a transaction, replacing the PIN-based security of contemporary chip cards.”
The first major pilot of biometric payment card solution from IDEMIA and Fingerprint Cards is now getting underway.
The project was first announced last November, when IDEMIA revealed that Japanese credit card company JCB would launch its F-Code biometric card to its customers. The financial services firm is now closer to realizing that goal, announcing that this month it’s proceeding with a pilot trial in which its ‘JCB Biometrics Card’ is being issued to its employees.
Like other emerging biometric payment card solutions, IDEMIA’s F-Code revolves around fingerprint authentication. It features an embedded Fingerprint Cards sensor, designed to confirm users’ identities as they process a transaction, replacing the PIN-based security of contemporary chip cards.
In its iteration as the JCB Biometrics Card, at least in the initial employee pilot, the card’s operation will require users to register their fingerprints on a mobile app before they can start making purchases, JCB said in a statement announcing the project. The company did not offer a timeline for the pilot, but said that its purpose is “to validate whether the solution is convenient for consumers and practical” for payment transactions.
